A Walk in the Woods

Still pretty chaotic here in abruptly-back-to-collegiate-teaching-land, but last weekend I finally took a day off (by my reckoning, my first day fully off since at least the start of August) and went for a little tromp in a state forest preserve. After the jump: naught but photography!

The Woods! They're NICE and they make a rustling sound

Wooden bridges a key part of the back-to-nature movement

That's right: it's SNACK TIME ON THE OL' TRAIL

Wish this shot had better captured the extremely dope and surprisingly common "entire tree, down to the roots, upended and conking down across the river" look here

This day was just moment-to-moment moody overcast gloomitude (AUTUMN FAVE) and dappled sun-drenched forest vistas (AUTUMN RUNNERUP FAVE). Not very interesting!!

buncha green stuff stickin up out of the ground imho
One of the great glories of leaving the house to stomp around the woods in yr flannels, denim, and waxed-cotton barn coat, is to come back home and steep a pot o' lapsang souchang smoky black tea to warm back up! And THEN: to spread the tea leaves in your little ceramic dish to dry out so you can get another pot or two of decaffeinated tea out of them! TEXTURES MAKE LIL OL PAT REAL HAPPY TURNS OUT
